Dental OSHA Kit FAQ
Short answers about The Dental OSHA Kit, the training and your order. Each legal answer links to its rule.
Training
Is online OSHA training allowed?
Yes, for bloodborne pathogens training, if a knowledgeable trainer is available to answer questions at the time they arise. The rule asks for "an opportunity for interactive questions and answers with the person conducting the training session" 29 CFR 1910.1030(g)(2)(vii)(N). OSHA says the trainer can be in another place, and a phone hotline or a live video link can meet the rule OSHA letter 2008-01-17 OSHA letter 1999-01-15. Questions sent by email must get an answer at the time they arise OSHA letter 1999-01-15 OSHA letter 2003-06-26. How the training works.
Who answers staff questions during the training?
Your own coordinator, a person in your office who knows the subject and your office plan. The kit includes the coordinator course. OSHA accepts a referral to the coordinator when "the exposure control coordinator is immediately available and is a knowledgeable trainer" OSHA letter 2003-06-26. The coordinator stays available for the whole training session OSHA letter 2003-06-26. What the coordinator does.
Is hazard communication training required every year?
Under the federal rule, it is required at initial assignment and whenever a new chemical hazard comes into the work area 29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1). Bloodborne pathogens training is the yearly one: it is required at least once a year 29 CFR 1910.1030(g)(2)(ii), (iv). See the training modules.

What format are the documents?
Each document is a PDF you print and keep in the office, where a written emergency action plan must be available to employees 29 CFR 1910.38(b). Safety data sheets may be kept electronically if staff have immediate access to them during each shift 29 CFR 1910.1200(g)(8). See what's in the kit.
Which documents must we show OSHA?
The rules say you must make these available to OSHA on request: the exposure control plan 29 CFR 1910.1030(c)(1)(vi), bloodborne pathogens training records 29 CFR 1910.1030(h)(3)(ii), and the written hazard communication program 29 CFR 1910.1200(e)(4). The kit gives you these documents, filled in for your office. See every requirement.
Does the kit cover my state?
The kit follows the federal OSHA rules. It covers every state where federal OSHA covers private employers, and these state-plan states: Arizona, Indiana, Kentucky, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont, Virginia and Wyoming. Alaska, California, Hawaii, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Tennessee and Washington run state plans with their own OSHA rules. See the list of states with the rule and source for each, and contact us if your office is in one of them.
